We have been “doing” holidays like this for over 10 years and have had successfully hosted yearly holiday gatherings without incurring any debt.

Early in life, I paid off many credit cards only to have them build back up again. I even had to file bankruptcy in 2002. It was a humbling, shameful moment for me. And when the cycle continued early in our marriage I knew we had to do something. I did NOT want to go down that road again.
So my husband and I invested in learning how to rid ourselves of debt and stop the debt cycle.
I won't lie, it was a bit scary. We didn't have a big house and a fancy car but we did love to travel and entertain and the thought of giving up the lifestyle we loved was scary, sad, and disappointing.
But then something happened.
We learned how to think about our money differently, pause spending, and shave off expenses to pay off debt.
We didn't miss a thing! We enjoyed life, made wise choices, and paid off over $28,000 in debts in about four years.
