Having a basic understanding of how the female body works and what function our sex hormones have is important in all stages of life.
Many women put off learning about and dealing with hormone issues because it is scary, unknown, and sometimes uncomfortable. I've even seen women ignore obvious issues because they were afraid that digging in to the issues would somehow jeopardize their purity.
As Christians we a duty to honor and care for the bodies God has given us. To suggest that understanding female sex hormones is impure or not necessary before marriage is risky thinking.
What the world has corrupted into something unhealthy has become our akeeles' heel. Far too many Christians don't want to broach even the subject of sex hormones because they have been duped by the enemy into believing it is wrong. Satan's agenda is to kill, steal, and destroy. We know he does this well with the world as we watch and see this with starter marriages, gender issues, and sexual orientation. But for those who are wise to that strategy, Satan doesn't give up he simply changes tactics.
This subtle tactic change gets women of all ages to think and feel uncomfortable learning about and understanding their bodies. Now the very creation of God, the human body, has become something to fear because of the bastardization of sexuality.
Not on my watch, Satan.
Friend, your sex hormones are important as are other function of your body. Don't shy away from learning how God created you because once you understand it you'll be even more amazed with your creator.
The Female Sex Hormones
We have three main sex hormones that are responsible for many aspects of our being such as energy, fertility, and vitality:
These three are not just the main hormones present, they are also the main hormones that end up out of balance and cause a myriad of issues for women.
Estrogen – Estrogen is the hormone responsible for making you uniquely female. Breasts, soft skin, wider hips, and your menstrual cycle are all thanks to estrogen.
Progesterone – The mother of many other hormones, progesterone is necessary for pregnancy as well as regulating your menstrual cycle.
Androgens – These are male hormones present in the female body. The most widely known is testosterone.
All of these hormones are made in the ovaries with small amounts produced in your thyroid.
Why are they so important?
When sex hormones are out of balance it can result in:
- irregular menstrual cycles
- mood swings throughout your cycle
- low sex drive
- thinning hair
- weight gain in the midsection
- feeling old
- hot flashes
- heavy bleeding
As you can see, all ages and stages of life can be impacted by sex hormones that are out of balance.
A healthy lifestyle is the first approach to maintaining balance or re-balancing your sex hormones.
The foods we eat (along with the contaminants in them) have a great impact on our hormones.
Natural cleaning products (not just green-washed marketing) are a simple, easy switch. I have removed all store-bought cleaners from our home and use Norwex for all of my cleaning needs. I'm still searching for the best liquid dish soap. This one is next on my list to try.
It can feel overwhelming to make all of these changes but don't let it stress you out. Make a few simple changes slowly and add more over time. Here are some easy steps you can take:
- Reduce your caffeine intake
- Switch to properly prepared nuts, grains, and seeds (Learn how with this free mini-membership to Traditional Cooking School)
- Learn what supplements can help your individual symptoms
- Switch to unprocessed cooking oils (like coconut oil)
- Learn about your menstrual cycle (did you know there are two phases to your cycle?)
You can read more about healthy lifestyle changes and our cycles in the Womens Health eBook. I highly recommend this book. It's one you'll keep on your shelf from the pre-teen years through menopause.
Take Charge of Your Health
The best thing you can do if think your sex hormones are out of balance is to take charge of your heath.
A good natural doctor (not an MD or OB/GYN) can help you determine the right course of action for you after an extensive interview and blood test. It is important to use a natural doctor as you want to avoid man-made hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
With consistent use of a bio-identical hormone therapy (BHRT) my cycle has become regular, my periods lighter, and my moods more even. (My challenge is being consistent!)
You may not need BHRT. Simple diet changes and listening to your body may be enough. Perhaps adding weight training is all you need (this increases testosterone).
There's no on sized fits all approach to balancing your sex hormone so it is up to you to take charge, do your own research, and seek out a naturally minded doctor who will contribute to your health and well being.
God has created our bodies to work in perfect alignment in all stages of life. Unfortunately, we are far from Eden and the world around us often detracts from our health and well being instead of adding to it. In some places, even the air we breath can have negative effects on our health. Supplements, BHRT, and intentional healthy living are necessary to keep our bodies as close to God's original design we can.
Plus, we honor our creator when we take charge of our health and wellness. Our bodies are His temple.
I've been using this roll-on for several months and it is both helpful and fragrant. It is a great place to start if you're unsure about natural remedies.
