Outdoor dates can be a great way to save money but still connect as couple. We have friends whose dates include wine tasting tours, carriage rides and 4-star restaurant excursions in neighboring states. For many, dating isn’t so easy or glamorous. When we were working to become debt free, expensive dates were possible but we had other goals. Now, we chose to spend our money in a way that stretches it as far as possible. Where kids are involved, there can be the challenge of finding an honorable sitter and, often the cost involved prohibits an expensive date night anyway.
Simple outdoor dates can be fun, exciting, romantic, and even sexy. It doesn’t take a whole lot of legwork to make these happen either, which makes them great for spontaneous dates when you’re suddenly child-free or the kids have an early bed night.
Great Outdoor Dates
Moonlite 4-wheeler ride – Grab a quad bike and take a moonlit ride. Extra credit: take a blanket and find a cozy spot to be intimate.
Backyard campfire – After the kids go to bed, grab some hotdog and s’more ingredients and have a backyard campfire. Be sure it’s a chilly night so you can cuddle under a blanket together.
Late night swim – Go skinny dippin’ in the pool (or the hot tub) once the kids are in bed.
Early morning moments – Get up early, make your favorite coffee or tea and head outside. Take time to enjoy each other’s company as you watch the sunrise or listen to the early morning birds sing to the Lord.
Go fishing – Even if you are not thrilled about fishing, go with your husband as he walks the creek bank, or fishes the local pond. Pack a lunch and take a blanket. Remember, dates aren’t always about doing “girl things”
Go Hunting – Okay, this one may stretch you if you’re not a fan of sitting quietly in the woods for hours. But if your husband’s love language is quality time, this side-by-side activity will fill his love tank. Besides, camo is cute!
Hookie Day Hike – Schedule a day off work when the kids are in school or co-op and take a hike. Many state and local parks have walking trails if you prefer a flat, easy walk. Afterward, grab a coffee or a bite to eat.
Camping – You don’t need a $40,00 RV to enjoy camping. Really. A weekend camping retreat with a tent and air mattress can be less than $200, even if you have to buy the tent and air mattress. Better yet, ask for them for Christmas or birthdays and you’ll be good to go for the next camping season. (No makeup required!)
Yard games – Cornhole, horse ball, yard darts, horseshoes and the list goes on. If you’re a competitive couple do a mini tournament. Winner gets a sexual favor of their choice later that day. 😉
Free concert – Many towns have free or cheap outdoor concerts. Take your lawn chairs and enjoy!
Have sex outside – Okay, so this really isn’t a date but there’s nothing more exhilarating than sex outside. In the rain would be even better!
Outdoors dates are a great way to reconnect when money is tight or you can’t find a sitter. They also make great dates when you don’t have a traditional work schedule. I hope you enjoy these outdoor date ideas.
