Surely no woman in her right mind does a read-aloud with an erotica novel for her boys. Hopefully no woman in her right mind lets erotica lay on the coffee table next to the newspaper and the family Bible. That would be wrong.
Hopefully most little boys whose moms are reading erotica don't have the faintest idea what Mommy is reading or what the word erotica means.
How then, can a mom's secret (or not so secret) reading of erotica novels effect her son?
It opens doors.
It's a bit like the money sitting in your retirement account. Up, down or even, you don't notice the changes now but years down the road, when you cash in that account, the wise or unwise investing you did when in your prime can mean the difference between enjoying retirement or struggling to pay the heat bill and put dinner on the table.
This lie that erotica is somehow okay for Christian women has dug it talons deep into the hearts of women in the church. We have jumped on the back of a long black train that will eventually jump the tracks and scatter its load of evil over the generations.
When you read erotica you open the door for pain in your future generations.
Buying into this lie, with your time, thoughts and money ensure that the next generation of women in the church jump on that same train.
And so there, dear sister, stands your son. He didn't see the train, but he's about to be run over. As he stands there, ring in hand, waiting to kiss his beloved he's unaware of the false expectations his soon to be Mrs. already has etched in her mind. You see, she reads erotica. It wasn't talked about in her church. She knew the youth leader's wife read it because she saw the book on her tablet. Now, 20-something and ready to begin this new life she is misguided with mental images and ideals of how a sexual relationship should play out.
When the train wrecks in their bedroom the load of shame, hurt and unrealistic expectations will scatter like seeds from a dandelion. If they aren't quickly dealt with they will take root and soon this couple will find themselves at a crossroads. One way leading to the counseling couch, the other the courtroom.
Mom, erotica is not just going to jazz up your sex life. It won't stay behind your bedroom door. Reading erotica is investing in bad stock and letting your children inherit a spiritual and emotional mess.
There is hope.
You've read, watch or worse. Now what can you do? There is hope, there is time. Our God is the giver of a second chance and the ultimate healer and restorer. As He reveals to you what biblical sexual behavior looks like, allow Him to restore your purity as you repent for your mistakes.
It stops with you. The decisions you make today will effect future generations.
It's time to shed the lies and start the discussion about healthy sexuality; biblical sexuality.
It's time to stop being ashamed and enjoy what God has given us in a biblical way.
It's time to expose the lie of erotica.
You can start by getting rid of your erotica, specifically 50 Shades of Grey. If you own this book and are ready to learn what biblical sexual behavior looks like (and still have smokin' hot sex with your husband) it's time to trade your shades. I encourage you and I challenge you to take a look at the other side of the coin. Pulling Back the Shades by Dr. Juli Slattery and Dannah Gresh will help you understand what biblical sexuality looks like and expose the lies of erotica and the 50 Shades illusion.
Sex is an amazing gift with benefits far beyond what we know. Don't let the enemy steal this from you. Expose the darkness, pull back the shades.
