Great Christian books are not heard to find. Searching Amazon or your local Christian bookstore will certainly not leave you lacking. Sometimes, though, it's overwhelming to decide what to read. Here are some books I have read, or am currently reading that have been insightful, fun or education and enlightening to me.
Biblical Sexuality
Sharing the truth about biblical sexual behavior is one of my passions. There is such a negative connotation in many churches regarding sexuality and sexual behavior. We want to keep it hushed and yet that only leaves people to find answers to their questions in the world and that is nowhere to find true, healthy information.
Pulling Back the Shades – I could write volumes about this book and its contents.
25 Questions Your Afraid to Ask About Love Sex and Intimacy – Go ahead, ask the question burning in the back of your mind. Dr. Juli is not afraid to answer it.
Health and Food
Okay, so why would I share health and food books in a post called “Great Christian books”? Because our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and living a thriving life means being taking care of our bodies so we can achieve maximum health. These books may not be overly Christian but they will help you take care of your temple.
The Healthy Lunchbox: Sandwich-Free Secrets to Packing A Real Food Lunch – If you're a traveling family or you have children in school, this book inspiration for packing foods that are delicious and healthy.
Nourishing No Bake Treats – I love no bake treats. They are a great way to make healthier snacks and they are fun for kids in the kitchen. We've made several of the recipes in this book. The Superfruit are our favorite and a request for lunch-time snack just about every day. Lindsey's recipes are easy to make and the photography in the book is great. The best thing about this book is you can make several varieties without washing your food processor. Oh! And did I mention maple bacon? Yes, in a healthy snack! There's an amazing fancy cupcake shop in our local town that sells maple bacon cupcakes…$4.00 each. This is a much healthier (and less expensive option).
Crock On – Busy mom? You need a crockpot and this book. These are healthy semi-whole foods recipes with basic ingredients you'll have on hand. I use this book at least once a week.
Real Food Fundamentals – Eating the real food God gave us with proper preparation is so beneficial to our health. If you are new to the idea of real food this book is a great place to start. Wardee is a wonderful, godly woman and a wealth of real food knowledge.
Faith
Glory Days – Our time on Earth should not be spent waiting for Pie in the Sky Heaven. Our best days can be now – living a life God intended us to live before we get to Heaven. This isn't hype but truth. Christ did not die for us to walk around defeated and bummed out waiting on death to relieve us.
Wrestling For My Life – This was an unusual book that crossed my desk. I thought perhaps it would be too manly and not my style but I was wrong. I grew up watching Shawn Michaels in the WWF (now the WWE) and so his story of salvation, redemption, and healing intrigued me. It's hard to believe a man, or woman, could live a Christian lifestyle in a professional wrestling career. If HBK can be a witness behind stage surely you and I can be a witness behind the cubical wall.
Parenting
5 Love Languages of Children – It might not seem like rocket science, your kids need love. But just like adults, our children hear, see and feel love in different ways. If you're familiar with the original Love Languages book the 5 languages are the same but this book gives great insight on displaying them for a child from toddler to pre-teen. It is very insightful in helping resolve behavioral issues as well because when a child's love tank is full they don't need to act out to get attention.
Prayers for Your Children – This 90-day prayer book is great for concentrated prayer over your children. I don't read it in order. I browse the table of contents for a topic that is relevant to our current season and read/pray that one.
