Everyone needs a coach.
Why? Because coaching can be the catalyst that helps you:
- Identify your calling
- Outline your goals
- Break free from old mindsets
What's the difference between coaching and counseling?
Coaching guides people to move from where they are to where they want to be. It is action oriented, not feelings oriented. It can give someone a clearer perspective on situations in their life so they can overcome them and move forward. Counseling's objective is to look at deep-seated issues like depression, anxiety and more.
When a person hires a coach, it is to gain clarity, confidence, accountability and direction.
A coach will come along side someone who has specific goals to help a person reach those goals. They aren’t necessarily dealing with someone’s past issues or something that is “wrong.” Rather they focus on what impedes someone’s progress to move forward. Most coaches are not counselors but have been trained in the process of coming along side someone and helping that person move toward a desired result.
Coaching and counseling are distinctly different:
- Coaching focuses on forward action while counseling focuses on feelings
- Coaching ask the question, “How?” while counseling often focuses on, “Why?”
- Coaching emphases strengths and assets as you look forward while counseling focuses on weaknesses and deficits and looking at the past.
When you work with a coach you're not dealing with deep psychological problems or dysfunctions, but rather with becoming all that God has called you to be. Like a garden, you're watering today so you can watch your future grow.
