Sexuality has become so distorted that most Christians don't know how they are supposed to relate to the subject. Should we be disgusted by sexual activity? Should we love sex and embrace it or should we keep it a hushed subject?
With the twisted world view of sexuality where does the Christian turn to find honest answers for themselves and their children?
Here are my top 10 books on biblical sexuality:
Passion Principles
Passion Principles by Shannon Ethridge won't leave you with a doubt: sex was created by God and intended to be more than just bodies rubbing together. Shannon walks you through 4 principles that will help you realize the understand biblical sexuality, get on the same page and move past hurts and discover great sex with your spouse. These 40 insightful answers to your most intimate questions is a must for your library.
The New Rules for Love, Sex and Dating
The world seems to be spinning at a pace much faster than it did ten years ago. Well meaning marrieds are great at giving advice about dating and love and while their words may be true, it can be hard to navigate through them in today's society. Andy Stanley has taken on the task of biblical truths as they relate to the twenty-first century. The New Rules for Love, Sex and Dating is a great book for singles who need truths and a dose of comedy altogether.
The Talk
As parents, Luke and Trisha Glickerson know that we can't keep our heads in the sand when it comes to talking about sex with our children. The Talk helps you open the door with younger children to discuss biblical sexuality in age appropriate language. You can read more about The Talk here. I have the digital version of this, but the hard copy is on my wish list!
More Than Just The Talk
Like it or not, we need to be the go-to people in our children's lives when it comes to sex and sexuality. Unless your head is in the sand, you know the world teaches explicit lies about sex, but we have explicit truth about sex right on our nightstand, coffee table or car seat: the Bible. We have to realize that like other issues in life sexuality must be talked about and open to discussion in the home, otherwise the world becomes the answer and that should be an outrage to the church. More Than The Talk will provide you with straight up ways to talk about sex, porn, masturbation and more.
Pulling Back the Shades
So much of the sexual behavior we see in the world can leave us wondering why not? Why not read erotica? Why not spice up our love life? After all, women have longing and desires. In Pulling Back the Shades Dannah Gresh and Dr. Juli Slattery will expose the lies of erotica and shed light on the longings of a woman from a biblical perspective. You can read more about Pulling Back the Shades in this post.
The Good Girl's Guide to Great Sex
Sheila Wray Gregoire explores how a “good Christian girl” should think about herself sexually, her sexual relationship with her husband and sex in general. When we fall into the traps of “bad girl” thinking it's hard to realize the true beauty of sexuality. The Good Girl's Guide to Great Sex will help you separate the two and show you the truth about sex.
Intimacy Ignited
If you haven't heard before, Song of Solomon is the steamy book of the Bible that shows us what physical passion and Christ's passion for his church looks like. When you understand the context of this book of the Bible you cannot deny that sexual intimacy is part of God's design for husbands and wives. Pintus and Dillow do a wonderful job working through the Song of Solomon exploring what it means to married couples and how we can have freedom in our marriage relationship.
Passion Pursuit
Linda and Juli again hit sex and intimacy head on in this Bible study. I cannot wait to share this with the ladies at our church. Besides talking about sex Passion Pursuit digs deep into how we women can use our power as wives to build passion or tear it down (as well as build up or tear down the very men we want to be passionate with.)
Intimate Issues
This was the first book I read on sex from a Christian perspective. It sparked a desire for me to find healing from my past sexual sins that I recently discovered I was carrying around like a two-ton suitcase. These 21 questions will help you see God's view of sex and navigate what is holy and pleasing to him in the bedroom.
I own or have read all of these books and I tell you they are must-reads for understanding biblical intimacy in marriage. I encourage you to grab these online, at the bookstore or in the library and learn God's truth!
